The shooting association "Strzelec" ( Polish: Związek Strzelecki; "Strzelec" = "shooter") is a paramilitary youth organization in Poland .

history

It was founded in 1909 in Lemberg , from the already existing vigilante groups. Its first commandant was Józef Piłsudski . Her tasks include preparing young people for military service, but she is not part of the Polish Armed Forces . In September 1939 the organization had 500,000 members who were assigned to support the Polish army .

Prominent members and leaders of the shooting association included Edward Rydz-Śmigły , Władysław Sikorski , Walery Sławek and Włodzimierz Tetmajer .

The re-establishment took place in 1994.
