Włodzimierz Tetmajer
Włodzimierz Przerwa-Tetmajer (born December 31, 1861 in Harklowa , Austrian Empire , † December 26, 1923 in Krakow , Second Polish Republic ) was a Polish painter and politician .
biography
He studied painting at the art colleges in Krakow, Vienna , Munich and Paris and from 1889 to 1895 under Jan Matejko , as well as classical philology at the Jagiellonian University . He mainly painted landscapes, scenes from peasant life and sacred polychromy . 1914-1918 he was a member of the XII. Legislative period of the Austrian House of Representatives and, after 1918, of the Polish Sejm , as a PSL-Piast MP. Włodzimierz Tetmajer was half-brother of the writer Kazimierz Przerwa-Tetmajer and cousin of the writer Tadeusz Boy-Żeleński and Ludwig von Tetmajer and was related by marriage to the poet Lucjan Rydel , who married the sister of Tetmajer's wife. This wedding was the model for Stanisław Wyspiański's drama Wesele ( The Wedding ) and Włodzimierz Tetmajer's picture of the same name, which can be seen in the article.
