Scabot

As anvil , Unterbär or lower anvil is defined as the part on which the anvil of a machine hammer is attached. Its weight is supposed to absorb the impact of the hammer. In historical, water-powered hammers such as the tail hammer or the throwing hammer , the scabbat rests on the wooden anvil or hammer stick . The actual anvil is fastened to the scabot. Today the anvil stick of historical drop hammers is sometimes incorrectly referred to as a scabot.

With modern machine hammers such as the spring hammer or the air hammer , the scabbard is made of solid steel, cast iron or reinforced concrete. The scabbot serves as a counterweight for the bear and as the foundation of the anvil.
