Sheet metal saddle pads, here between the window and an additional winter window

An internal saddle pad is a smooth, stiffened, mostly fabric-covered cross curtain of a window decoration . It is often attached to the curtain rail with Velcro or nails. Their lower edge can be cut out in various shapes and decorated with a sewn or ironed border. The saddle pad can also be made from the same fabric as the decorative scarves on the side . The saddle pad forms an upper end and is often used to cover a lintel or a roller shutter box .

External valances are used to cover the raised blinds , but also to decorate windows, arcades or roof edges. They are often made of sheet metal painted in one or more colors, but also wood and, more rarely, stucco. Since the word " saddle cloth " is sometimes used as a swear word ("old saddle cloth "), it is also often referred to with the French word lambrequin (from French lambeau for rags, rags).
