Entry to the witch fire

The Schaffhausen witch trials are the earliest known witch trials in Switzerland and took place in Schaffhausen in 1402 .

Proof of this process / these processes was provided by the Schaffhausen City Archives on the basis of the city bills. They are people who have been charged as witches or witches. The person (s) came from Beringen . In Schaffhausen she was interrogated and executed.

In the documents there is talk of a hegsen brand , i.e. a burning of witches. It is one of the earliest witch trials in Central Europe with a death sentence by burning. The list in the city archive shows the individual amounts for the executioner . For example, the cost of the "dry wood for the witch fire" was five shillings.

The city archive speaks of one or more processes. From the transcription of the 600-year-old file, it cannot be determined whether it is one or more people who are referred to as "Hägsen".
