Shah Cheragh mausoleum in Shiraz

Shah Cheragh ( Persian شاه چراغ, DMG Šāh-e Čerāġ , 'King of Light') is the burial place in the Iranian city of Shiraz of Amir Ahmad (died 835), known as the “King of Light”, and Mir Muhammad. Both were brothers of Imam Reza who had taken refuge in Shiraz from the Abbasid persecution . The double mausoleum is one of the most famous Shiite pilgrimage sites in Iran . It is located near the New Mosque.

The first building is assigned to the Salghurid Atabeg Saʿd I. (r. 1198–1226). During the reign of the Timurids in the 14th century, Queen Taschi-Chatun, who was interested in art, had the building renovated and further developed. Further renovations followed in the 18th century. During the reign of the Qajar ruler Fath Ali Shah , the building was expanded by a few sections, and in 1958 the dome was renewed.

The mausoleum is characterized by skillful mirror work. Countless finely crafted tiles cover the dome over the shrine . The interior is decorated with pieces of glass mixed with multi-colored tiles.
