The Shahid Chamran University of Ahwas ( Persian دانشگاه شهید چمران اهواز; English Shahid Chamran University of Ahvaz ), until 1982 Dschondischapur University (based on the Academy of Gundischapur ), is a public university in the Iranian city of Ahvaz . It is one of the largest universities in Iran .
It was founded in 1955 as an agricultural college. Soon after the founding of the Jondischapur University, Tal'at Basāri (طلعت بصاري) became Vice Chancellor of the university, the first woman in Iran to hold such an office. In 1982 the university was renamed "Shahid-Tschamran University of Ahwas" in honor of the commander of the Revolutionary Guard and fighter of the Shiite Amal militia , Mostafa Tschamran . In 1986 the faculties of medicine, health, dentistry, childbirth and pharmacy were reorganized under the independent " Ahvaz Jundishapur University of Medical Sciences " and have been under the State Ministry of Health ever since.
In the academic year 2008–2009, the university had 14,304 students, of which 5214 were students and 9090 were female students.
