A sound energy quantity is an energy quantity that is used to describe a sound field , parts thereof or sound sources .

The following sound energy quantities are common:

(The formula symbol is reserved for the sound pressure level, therefore the sound power level - in contrast to the system - has the same formula symbol as the sound energy level.) ${\displaystyle L_{p}}$ ${\displaystyle L_{W}}$

For the metrological determination of the sound energy quantities, it is often used that they are proportional to the square of the corresponding sound field quantities (e.g. sound pressure ) at the same location in the sound field.
