A hag (Charteque, v Middle Low German. Scarte, scarteke . Old book, certificate, probably from französ charte document from Latin .: Charter card) is the derogatory term for an old, worthless document or book . The name came up in the 16th century. In the 19th century it was generally used to describe old worthless equipment, after all the word was derogatory for an old woman.
