Shadow deck

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A shade cover (English: shade coverage ) is a deck on a ship.

details

According to the definition of authorities and classification societies , a shade deck is a lightly built partially open side deck above the main deck .

The shadow deck was a continuous deck developed from the savings deck above the main deck . In terms of shipbuilding, it was designed as a permanent connection between the existing deck structures of cargo ships and passenger facilities made of iron or steel, in order to create an additional covered deck area for passengers. Due to its light construction, the shadow deck did not count as a girdle deck in the sense of a ship's longitudinal structure; it was also kept open at the sides and excluded from the measurement. For shadow decks, classification societies issued their own regulations regarding the materials to be selected and their strengths. Ships with a shadow deck were classified accordingly as shadow decks.
