A display advertising designer is the expert for the decoration of a shop, event location etc. His activity does not only refer to the design / decoration of shop windows , but also covers the entire field of publicly visible areas.

Germany

History job titles

The professional title was show windows gestalter which colloquially today also decorator called. In 1975 an update of the training and the effect the term changed in shop rack gestalter . The training lasts three years and can be shortened by half a year upon completion of the secondary school leaving certificate and by one year upon application.

In the GDR, the job title was used recruiters , which (in the two specifications of advertising material poster painter was) and advertising designers divided. The apprenticeship lasted two and a half years and was completed every week alternately in a training workshop (practice) and in a vocational school (theory). Since reunification, the designation commercial advertiser has been replaced by the designation show advertising designer, which is common in the Federal Republic of Germany.

On August 1, 2004, the apprenticeships were restructured and the job title has been for visual marketing since the designer . A visual marketing designer makes color choices, decorates, and runs advertising campaigns.

The older job titles are still used in job advertisements or are listed as synonyms.

Austria

The 1997 amendment to the Vocational Training Act (Federal Law Gazette I No. 67/1997) established the apprenticeship upholsterer and decorator in Austria with a three-year apprenticeship period. In accordance with the German-Austrian vocational training agreement and the official exchange of notes based on it, the training is equated in a legally binding manner with the German training as an interior decorator and vice versa.
