Shehechejanu

The blessing ( bracha ) Shehechejanu ( Hebrew שהחינו "Who gave us life" ) is a Jewish prayer that is said on special occasions. The blessing comes from the Talmud , which indicates that it has been recited for over 1,500 years.

Praise be to you, Eternal, our God, King of the world, who gave us life and preservation and made us reach this time. Baruch atah Adonaj, Elohejnu Melech HaOlam, shehechejanu, wekijmanu wehigianu la'seman haseh. בָּרוּךְ אַתָּה יְיָ אֱלֹהֵינוּ מֶלֶךְ הַעוֹלָם שֶׁהֶחֱיָנוּ וְקִיְּמָנוּ וְהִגִּיעָנוּ לַזְּמַן הַזֶּה׃

However, the blessing is not given on a day of mourning, such as Tisha beAv , during the counting of the Omer, or during circumcision .

Frank-Walter Steinmeier

Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier was the first German head of state to speak in Yad Vashem at the central commemoration event for the 5th  World Holocaust Forum on January 23, 2020 in Jerusalem. He began his speech in Hebrew with the blessing Shehechejanu: Praise be to the Lord [...] that he lets me be here today.
