Welded clamp

The bellsmith is a craftsman who makes bells.

Today the profession is only practiced in the Alpine countries, namely for the production of cattle bells for cows and other animals such as goats or horses. The old craft was practiced everywhere in the Middle Ages . In contrast to bells that are forged from sheet metal, there are bells that are cast from metal.

Iron, copper or brass sheet is forged until it has the appropriate thickness. Then the sheet metal is welded or riveted together on the side to form a clamp shape. The forms vary from region to region. The jingles usually have a copper or brass coating , which protects them from corrosion and gives them a better sound.
