Shetar Bosnai

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Shetar-Bosnai was a Persian official in the time of King Darius , mentioned in the Bible in the Book of Ezra .

Mention in the Bible

According to Ezra  5 and 6, Shetar-Bosnai came to Jerusalem with the governor Tattenai when the new building of the temple , which had been destroyed by Nebusaradan during the conquest of the city , was going on . When they asked who had ordered the construction, the answer they received was that King Cyrus had ordered this when he allowed the Jews to return from exile . They then wrote a letter to King Darius, asking for clarification on the matter. A scroll was actually found in Akhmeta fortress confirming this. King Darius therefore ordered Tattenai, Schetar-Bosnai and their people not to hinder the construction of the temple. This order was followed by them exactly, so that the temple could be completed in the sixth year of the reign of Darius ( 515 BC ).
