The Bitil, or the Fitr , was a measure of length and the small or short span on the human body. The measure was used in Zanzibar and East Africa .

The measurement was defined between the tip of the index finger and that of the thumb of the spread hand. The shibri / shibiri was the long or large span with the distance between thumb and little finger.

  • 1 Bitil / Fitr = 2/5 Durrah = 18.3 centimeters (calculated 18.288 centimeters)
  • 2 ½ Bitil / Fitr = 1 Mkone / Ziraa / Elle

The long or long span was that of Schibr . Here was the length between the tip of the little finger and the tip of the thumb of the splayed hand.

  • 1 shibri / shibiri = ½ durrah = 22.86 centimeters
