The Schiffermadonna in the Church of St. Maria in Lyskirchen

The Schiffermadonna is a late Gothic figure of Mary that was probably made in a Cologne workshop around 1420 .

The wooden figure, over two meters high, originally comes from the monastery church in Walberberg near Sechtem and was given to the church of St. Maria in Lyskirchen in Cologne after the monastery was dissolved in the 19th century .

Until the end of the 19th century, the figure stood in a niche on the outer facade of the east apse of the church, where it could be seen and venerated by boatmen on the Rhine .

The figure has been housed in the interior of the church since 1930.
