Schinar ( Šinar ) is a geographical term mentioned in the Old Testament ( Gen 10.10  EU , Gen 11.2  EU , Jos 7.21  EU and so on) .

Localization

The name was often derived from Singara (Jebel Sinjâr) west of Assyria and north of Babylon . After the discovery and deciphering of the Sumerian cuneiform , it was proposed to equate Šinar with Šumer or its supposedly older form * Šungir, or with * Šugir, a name variant of Girsu , or a district of Lagaš . Albright wants to equate Šinar with Ḫana .
