Schistosoma mansoni

A schistosomiasis vaccine (synonym schistosomiasis vaccine ) is a vaccine against parasites of the genus Schistosoma , the causative agent of schistosomiasis .

While schistosomiasis safe and effective with praziquantel , oxamniquine and metrifonate can be treated, its effect ends with the completion of dosing. For this reason, vaccines against schistosomes are being developed, which are supposed to offer lasting protection against infection. The proteins Sm-p80 ( calpain ) and Sm14 are examined as antigens in the course of the vaccine design .
