Battle of March 30, 1844

The Battle of March 30, or Battle of Santiago, was the second battle after the Dominican War of Independence and was fought in Santiago de los Caballeros on March 30, 1844 . In this battle, General José María Imbert , who commanded part of the Northern Army, defeated General Jean-Louis Pierrot , who commanded the Haitian Army more numerically than his own.

On March 30, 1844, the Haitians attacked in the forts "Dios", "Patria" and "Libertad" off the savannah of Santiago de los Caballeros and were then attacked by General José María Imbert and Commander Achilles Michel. The Haitians had counterattacked and were repulsed by the Dominican artillery and rifles of Fernando Valerio's ground forces. The Haitian army launched another desperate attack and was defeated with the cannons of the fort "Dios, Patria y Libertad" and the infantry of Fernando Valerio López. Jean-Louis Pierrot's army was forced to withdraw, with the Dominican army, led by José María Imbert and Achilles, winning.
