The Sleeping Lion in Bytom (Beuthen OS) is a 19th century lion sculpture on the Ring (central square in the old town). The sculpture depicts a reclining lion with its head lowered, propped up on its front paws and turned sideways to the left.

The lion is a replica of the Sleeping Lion by Theodor Kalide from 1824. It was cast in bronze in 1873 in the Gladenbeck foundry in Berlin. It was part of the memorial for the fallen in the Franco-Prussian War from 1870 to 1871 from the district of Beuthen .

In the 20th century, the memorial was first moved to Plac Akademicki and then to the city park. Between 1952 and 1953 or in the 1960s, the monument disappeared from Bytom.

In 2006 the lion sculpture was rediscovered, it was located on the grounds of the Warsaw Zoo. Initially, the Warsaw city administration was not ready to hand over the lion sculpture to Bytom. Bytom should just get a new copy. However, in 2008 the sculpture returned to Bytom and was ceremoniously unveiled on October 4, 2008 on the Ring.
