Sloe brandy

Sloe ( Prunus spinosa )

The sloe brandy is a fine brandy made from the fruits of the blackthorn ( Prunus spinosa ) - a specialty with a cherry-plum-like fruit note.

Since the small fruits of the sloe have a low fructose content, the yield is very low. From 100 kg of mash you only get between 2 and 3 liters of brandy, so the price is correspondingly high. The fruits, which grow individually on shaggy bushes, have to be laboriously harvested by hand. Before the first frost sets in, the fruits of the sloe contain a very high content of bitter substances. That is why the laborious harvest only takes place afterwards, which makes the work even more difficult.

Sloe brandy is described by the noble brandy connoisseur as a "taste gem" and is considered a precious rarity in these circles . It is especially enjoyed in winter.
