Tow cone

The tow cone is used to calibrate the static pressure- based measuring instruments of an aircraft .

The drag cone provides the steady static pressure of the surrounding earth's atmosphere as a reference pressure . This is done by pulling the tow cone behind the aircraft during the calibration flight. The distance to the aircraft must be sufficiently large so that the surrounding air can be described as almost undisturbed by the actual aircraft.

functionality

The tow cone consists of the main components cone and hose. The static pressure above the hose is used as a reference for the measurement. The cone is mainly used for stabilization and as an aerodynamic resistance to pull the hose out of the aircraft.
