Schleswig-Holstein Institute for Peace Studies

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Schleswig-Holstein Institute for Peace Studies ( SCHIFF ) was originally founded as an independent institute for peace research at the Christian-Albrechts-Universität zu Kiel . Since April 1, 2006 it has been a work area in the Institute for Social Sciences of the University (AFuK).

Since 1997 events have been held regularly as "SHIP Colloquium - Cooperation and Conflict in the Baltic Sea Region". Under the direction of Christian Wellmann , the institute addressed everyone who, in their professional or voluntary work, practical or academic, deals with aspects of cross-border cooperation in the Baltic Sea region. One focus of the work is the scientific research of the Kaliningrad Oblast as an example of conflict prevention in relations between Russia and the EU. Extensive publication activity has so far resulted in 80 “ship texts”.

The institute had an extensive library with books and magazines on peace and conflict research.

In 2011, the SCHIFF merged into the “International Political Sociology at Kiel University (KUIPS)” under the direction of Dirk Nabers .
