floodgate

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A lock gate is an almost watertight closure of a lock chamber. The lock gate is integrated into the respective head or lower head of the chamber. Different gate types are used depending on the type and purpose of the lock and the terrain. The gate of a lock can also be integrated in the flood protection dam between bodies of water and seal in both directions.

Lift gate

Lift gate

A lifting gate is a sluice gate that is guided on rails and lifted vertically. Since it therefore requires a high structure and, depending on the weight, also counterweights , it is used less nowadays to avoid a major change in the landscape.

Folding gate

Folding gate when opening

A flap gate is a lock gate in which the gate moves around a horizontal axis. The gate is laid down to open the chamber; the ships can then pass through the gate. In order not to reduce the chamber size of the lock, folding gates are almost exclusively used on the head of a lock.

Segment gate

  • Segment gate as a damming body rotatable about a horizontal axis with a circular cylindrical gate skin.

Sliding gate

  • A special type of lock gate is called a sliding gate or roller gate, which opens and closes horizontally and laterally to the axis of a ship lock.

Miter gate

Stemmtor when opening

A miter gate is a construction consisting mostly of two wings (sometimes also one wing). It usually consists of two gate leaves that can be rotated around vertical axes and brace each other at an obtuse angle.
