Sliding gate (hydraulic engineering)
When sliding or rolling door in is hydraulic particular type of lock gates , respectively. They belong to the lock gates with a horizontal movement path.
Layout and function
A sliding door opens and closes horizontally and laterally to the axis of a ship lock . As a rule, it is used to close a very wide and particularly large lock chamber and consists of a wagon-like steel construction that runs on rails or hangs on a rail construction. Special sealing systems guarantee low water loss during the lock process.
Examples
Sliding gate of the Kaiserschleuse Bremerhaven
Other types of lock gates
- Lifting gate as a protective board with vertical movement in the direction of the gate level upwards.
- Folding gate as a single-wing lock gate with a horizontal axis of rotation attached to the floor of the lock chamber.
- Segment gate as a damming body rotatable about a horizontal axis with a circular cylindrical gate skin.
- Mortise gate made of two wings (rarely only one wing) with a vertical axis of rotation.
