history

The former Baumgarten Castle was first mentioned in a document in 1074 as the property of the Ollersbach high freemen. They are followed by the Ministerials zu Totzenbach, who later call themselves "zu Baumgarten". In 1565 the complex was owned by Count Trauttmansdorff , who converted the castle into a palace.

During the second Turkish siege in 1683, the poorly fortified castle was destroyed by Turkish troops, but was soon rebuilt. The former three-storey main wing in the south was only rebuilt with two storeys and the remaining three wings, which had previously only been one-storeyed, were increased to two storeys.

In 1945 the castle was burned down again, but the exterior was completely restored by Walter Lechner. Inside it was furnished in a modern way. Baumgarten remained in bourgeois hands. In 2001 it was auctioned again. The current owners are the Wimmer-Schick family. Parts of the castle, which houses various companies, can be rented for seminars and events.
