Blonay Castle is located in the municipality of the same name in Blonay in the canton of Vaud .
history
The castle was built in 1175 by Wilhelm II of Blonay, a Savoy ministry . The family has lived there since then - with a brief interruption in the 18th century - up to our day.
The oldest part still in existence is the mighty square keep from the founding period, which was increased in later years and incorporated into a series of buildings around a courtyard. The castle with an irregular, square floor plan used to have four corner towers, two of which are still preserved today.
It has a courtyard with a loggia in the Renaissance style (1677) on the west side, as well as a castle chapel from the 15th century with glass paintings from 1577. Numerous restorations and redesigns were carried out on the residential buildings from the 18th to the 20th century; the moats were also filled in in the 19th century.
