Blumenstein Castle

Blumenstein Castle is located in the city of Salzburg behind the Bürglstein, on the corner of Pausingerstraße 6 and Blumensteinstraße 1.

history

The castle was built in 1635 by the Salzburg councilor and trader Hans Kellenberger (Khellenperger). In 1653 Bartlmä Strobl and his wife bought the castle. Another owner of the castle in 1717 was Rudolf Freisauff von Neudegg, a member of an important Salzburg trading family. From him, Sigmund Graf Kuenburg acquired the castle, which received a new interior from Count Kuenburg in 1741. In 1805, Franz Hugo Graf Salm-Reifferscheidt bought with his wife Maria Joisefa, b. Countess MacChaffry of Keanmore, the castle with the Blumensteinhof on Gaiusbergstrasse. In 1888 Theodor Favarger became the new owner. Neo-Gothic tower towers were added to the building around 1890 .

description

Blumenstein Castle

The castle is an elongated, three-storey building with an adjacent, gate-like driveway that leads into an inner courtyard with additional outbuildings. On the first floor, the windows are fitted with wrought-iron push-through grilles and bezels with spherical keystones . The windows on the second floor are simpler. In 1956, the facades and the roof were returned to their old condition during renovation work . On the upper floor, a painted coat of arms of Kuenburg-Rollingen was exposed on the ceiling of the salon .
