Ehrental Castle (2008)

Ehrental Castle is a castle north of the historical center of Klagenfurt and is located on a terrace at the foot of the Ehrentaler Berg .

The castle was first mentioned in 1645 as Wieltschnigg and was then owned by Johann Weber von Ehrental. It has been owned by the Province of Carinthia since 1953 and houses an agricultural school and the agricultural museum.

The castle is an elongated building from the 17th century. It has two corner projections. The facade is structured with pilasters and has stuccoed window crowns, which come from Marx J. Pittner from around 1760. The portal is asymmetrical, next to it is a coat of arms of the Aichelburg family . A modern extension is attached to the north-west side of the palace.

The east room on the first floor has a stucco ceiling by Kilian Pittner (around 1720), the western room a stucco ceiling by Marx J. Pittner (around 1760). During renovations in 1962, the baroque wall paintings from the Fromiller School were destroyed. They had depicted scenes from Ovid's Metamorphoses .
