The expired Hofegg Castle (sometimes also called Hofek ) was located in the Steyrermühl district of the Laakirchen municipality in the Gmunden district of Upper Austria (approx. 500 m from the train station).

history

The exact construction time of the castle is not known; but it is said to have been built by ministerials of the Styrian Otakare , who called themselves free lords of Hofek . Hoffekh was first mentioned in 1434 after the Upper Austrian Stiftsurbaren. Hofegg was later a fiefdom of the Kremsmünster monastery and owned by the Mühlwanger family . An Ulrich Pergheimer is proven here in 1508.

In 1597 Hofegg was acquired by Veith Spindler, who then carried the title Graf von und zu Hofegg and Waldpach . His brother Johann († 1600) was abbot of the Kremsmünster monastery. Veith Spindler was a doctor of law, an imperial court chamber councilor and sovereign salt minister of Gmunden . His son Johann had the castle surrounded with a wall in 1625. In 1696 Hofegg came to Johann Graf Ehrenreich von Seeau. In 1725 Karl Josef Oktavianus von Frey, who also owned Mühlwang , Waldpach and Weyer , is listed as the owner of Hofegg. As a result, the owners were the same as Mühlwang. The last owner was Josef Solterer, the keeper of Puchheim .

The castle fell into disrepair and fell into disrepair in 1826. At the beginning of the 20th century, remains of the wall were found near the Heidgut (house number 14). The street name Hofegg is traced back to the former country castle.
