history
Originally there was a farm on the site of today's castle, which belonged to the Styrian sovereigns and has been continuously expanded. In 1478 it was bestowed on Andree Peckh. A short time later it was probably destroyed by Hungarians or Turks in 1480. In 1620 Andreas Eder von Kainbach had a small noble residence built on the site of the former court, which he lived in with his brother Thoman. On July 2, 1629, a soul mass was held in the newly built court chapel, which was consecrated to Maria Hilf . In 1647 Eder made the estate a Fideikommiss . In 1651 Ignaz Leopold von Kainbach inherited his cousin Andreas Eder.
The first mention of a second chapel dedicated to St. Anthony dates back to 1730. After the death of the last male descendant of the Kainbach family, the palace became the property of the Graz Poor Clares in 1756 . When their monastery was closed in 1782, the castle came into state ownership. Several changes of ownership followed before it was given to the Graz Order of the Brothers of Mercy of St. John of God on April 14, 1875, who currently own it. It is part of a sanatorium and nursing home for the chronically ill.
description
The castle is an elongated, two-story building with a hipped roof and two mighty, baroque towers on the entrance front. It received its present form through several important renovations towards the end of the 19th and beginning of the 20th century. The facade was restored in 1973.
