Kröllendorf Castle

Kröllendorf Castle is a castle in the village of Kröllendorf in the market town of Allhartsberg in the Amstetten district in Lower Austria .

The castle stands north-west of Allhartsberg on a sloping edge of the hill country in the foothills of the Alps.

history

A manorial seat was mentioned in a document in 1033. Different owners followed, including Geyer von Osterburg in the 16th century. From 1655 to 1878 owned by the Barons von Stiebar (Niederhausegg). Since then again changing owners.

The core of the building from the 16th century was converted to a baroque one in the middle of the 18th century and later changed in a Biedermeier style.

architecture

The castle is enclosed by a park and is located on a narrow hill spur in the northeast of the village. To the north there are several farm buildings and stables. There are remains of former fortification walls with loopholes and a raised round tower with a conical roof facing the sloping terrain. The gate wall has a round arch portal and a walled-in doorway.

The representative three-storey rectangular building under a low hipped roof has two turrets in the northwest, a round tower from the 17th century, and a polygonal sanitary tower from 1908. The main front shows a Biedermeier façade structure from 1805 with lunette cornice strips, banding and the Stiebar family coat of arms. The center of the main front is accentuated by a facade tower attachment with a four-pillar tan from 1908. The curved pilaster-flanked portal has a stone wall.
