Kratzkau Castle

The Kratzkau Castle ( Polish : Pałac w Kraskowie ) in Krasków (German: Kratzkau ) belongs to the rural community Marcinowice ( Groß Merzdorf ) in the powiat Świdnicki in the Lower Silesian Voivodeship in Poland.

history

The origins of today's castle lie in a medieval courtyard. A first fortification probably had a moat and rampart with a palisade fence . Around 1300 a moated castle Cratzcou was built, which came to the von Sedlitz in 1360 . In the second half of the 16th century the complex was converted into a permanent house , possibly when Katharina von Sedlitz married Siegmund von Zedlitz in 1577 . During the Thirty Years' War the castle burned down, was rebuilt until 1641 and remained in the possession of von Zedlitz until it came to the Count of Hochberg auf Rohnstock through marriage.

David Siegismund Graf von Hochberg auf Rohnstock sided with the Prussians in the First Silesian War and was raised to the rank of Prussian Count von Zedlitz auf Leipe in 1741. He had the property converted into today's castle while preserving the basement foundations. Although the building was associated with Johann Bernhard Fischer von Erlach , Lucas von Hildebrandt is more likely the architect of the palace.

After the end of the Second World War , when the region was claimed by the People's Republic of Poland , the castle was looted and a state property was established in 1950. The castle fell into disrepair from the 1970s until it was acquired by Austrians in 1992. During the restoration, the historical room layout was largely restored. The restored castle was opened as a hotel for the 250th anniversary of its completion.
