Lehnhaus Castle

Lehnhaus Castle ( Polish : Pałac Lenno ) stands on a saddle below the Lehnhaus Castle near Wleń (Lähn), Lower Silesian Voivodeship .

history

The castle probably goes back to a fortress house from the 16th century. The house was acquired in 1653 by Adam Kolhass, who had it expanded in 1662. Kolhass also had the neighboring Hedwig Church built. Wilhelm von Grunfeld and Guttenstädt, owners since 1728, had the building remodeled in a baroque style around 1750.

When the last of the noble family died, his widow had Gottfried Schadow erect a marble stele with allegories of religion, the angel of death and the broken family coat of arms. After 1827 the castle was owned by von Haugwitz. In 1933 a severe fire destroyed the interior of the castle.

After 1945 the castle was used as a sanatorium by the Polish Railways. Today the castle has been restored and has a café and guest rooms.

Building

The building has nine axes with two side projections and a narrow central projection . A vaulted gable bears the von Grunfeld and von Unruch marriage coat of arms. Inside, the baroque staircase and wall paintings from around 1800 have been preserved.
