Möderndorf Castle (Maria Saal)

Möderndorf Castle (2010)

The Möderndorf Castle stands next to the church in Möderndorf the customs field in the town of Maria Saal .

Möderndorf was first mentioned in a document in 1164. In the second half of the 13th century there was a small residence here, which was fortified like a tower in the 14th century. Under the Keutschachers, who were lords of Tanzenberg from 1516 to 1637 , a castle-like expansion took place. An inscription stone marked 1662 with the coats of arms of the Jobornegg and Keutschach families attests to the further expansion.

The castle consists of two two-storey, partially nested, rectangular building cubes. A late Gothic , chamfered round arch portal made of red sandstone has been preserved on the eastern part . Components were removed on the south side.
