Mayerhofen Castle (2011)

Mayerhofen Castle is at the exit of the Metznitz valley in the municipality of Friesach .

In 1303 Archbishop Friedrich donated the Salzburg Meierhof to the Maria Magdalena monastery, which had long since closed. In the 18th century the property came into the possession of Count Gaisruck, and later that of Count Aichelburg. Then it was bought by Bishop Salm-Reiferscheid and then by Peter von Mayerhofen. In 1812 it was bought by Karl Anton von Dresdner. The castle has belonged to the Knappitsch family since 1837 .

description

The castle is a three-storey, cubic building from the late 17th century with a Josephinian facade designed around 1790 . The show side in the east is crowned by a high triangular gable. The coat of arms of the Archdiocese of Salzburg and the Knapitsch family are attached to the gable. In three rooms on the upper floor, stucco work from the first half and the end of the 18th century has been preserved. The Biedermeier garden was laid out at the beginning of the 19th century and equipped with a garden pavilion with an onion roof. The oval swimming pool with gargoyles was built around 1900. In the 20th century, a runway for small aircraft was created north of the castle.
