Oberradkersburg Castle
The Oberradkersburg Castle stands on a hill on the Mur River in the town of Gornja Radgona in Slovenia . It is registered in the Slovenian Cultural Heritage Register.
history
The Oberradkersburg fortress was mentioned in a document in 1363. Little property was initially associated with the protective castle of Radkersburg on the right bank of the Mur. In the 15th century, a large lordship was established and administered in the castle under Friedrich von Stubenberg . Hans von Stubenberg lost the castle to the emperor through his involvement in the Baumkirch feud (1469). After that the rule was with different families, including the Lords of Graben . In 1618 the administration went to Hans Ulrich Fürst von Eggenberg and his descendants. In the middle of the 18th century the castle became the free property of the Herberstein family . From 1789 to 1914 the Counts Wurmbrand-Stuppach owned the castle. Count Franz Karl Chrorinsky later became the owner.
In 1920 the districts of Oberradkersburg and Untergries were replaced by Radkersburg and Gornja Radgona was incorporated. In the state ownership of Yugoslavia , the castle was used as a school. In 1992 the castle was leased to Milan Herzog for 99 years.
architecture
The mighty, irregular three-storey square has a lower, large two-storey forecourt in the west. The core of the medieval building was changed in the 16th and 18th centuries. The square shows an inner courtyard with pillar arcades in the style of the Renaissance. The entrance portal in the west shows the Herberstein coat of arms and the year 1775. The portal of the square to the forecourt with a ramp in front shows the Herberstein- Eggenberg double coat of arms . Nothing has survived from the former facility.
