Rambouillet Castle
The Château de Rambouillet is in the same place Rambouillet about 50 kilometers southwest of Paris in France . It was built in 1368 by Jean Bernier. Louis XVI from France acquired the castle in 1783 as a private residence.
On March 31, 1547, King Franz I died in the palace.
It was the summer residence of the French presidents from 1896 to 2009 . Some important conferences are associated with his name today:
- in July 1960 Charles de Gaulle and Konrad Adenauer set the goal for a Franco-German treaty.
- The first G6 summit met in 1975 .
- In 1999, unsuccessful negotiations between the conflicting parties to the Kosovo war began with the Rambouillet draft treaty .
The castle has been managed by the Center des monuments nationaux since 2009 and can be visited (except on Tuesdays).
