Rappoltenkirchen Castle

The Rappoltenkirchen Castle is located on main road no. 7 in the church settlement Rappoltenkirchen in the market town of Sieghartskirchen in the Tulln district in Lower Austria . The castle and the outbuildings are under monument protection ( list entry ).

history

Rappoltenkirchen was first mentioned in a document in 1210. However, it is likely to have been given to the nobles of Lengenbach as early as 1186 by the last Styrian Duke Ottokar IV († May 8, 1192) . They passed it on to some of their feudal people until 1236. The place was originally called Rapotenkirchen, which indicates that it was founded by a Count Rapoto. In the first half of the 13th century it came to the Dobra taverns via the Babenbergs. In 1358, Duke Rudolf IV renewed the post of supreme hunter master in Austria and combined it with the Rappoltenkirchen official loan. The first owner was Ritter Friedrich von Kreisbach. Based on the office associated with the small fortification, the fortress was then called the Jägerburg. The Kreisbachers had earned the nickname "Landfahrer" because they had taken part in numerous campaigns in Europe and the Orient. From Wilhelm von Kreisbach, who was married to Anna von Doppel, the office of Jägermeister passed to the Doppel family. In 1417 Rappoltenkirchen was pledged to Wolfgang von Laßberg and in 1418 to the Sepeck family. From 1428 to 1468, the Knights of Sepeck were fief owners who transformed the castle into a palace. In 1590 the castle was destroyed by an earthquake. From 1627 the castle was owned by the Barons von Questenberg, passed to the Counts of Kuefstein in 1710, then, via Prince Franz Josef von Dietrichstein, to Georg Freiherr von Sina zu Hodos and Kizdia in 1821 . Alois Ludwig Pichl carried out renovations in the 1820s . From 1869 to 1874 a redesign took place according to the plans of Theophil von Hansen , including the older parts. In 1884 the castle was inherited by the Ypsilanti princes . In 1945 the castle was severely damaged. 1997/1998 was a restoration.

architecture

The medieval historicist castle next to the parish church Rappoltenkirchen is surrounded by a park.

The monumental block-like structure over a rectangular floor plan was built over the original four-wing structure. The long side has 8 window axes, the broad side 5 window axes. The four-wing building is connected to the upstream tower in the southeast by a corridor. The interior is formed by a central, light-flooded staircase over four floors under a glass roof instead of the old courtyard.

The castle chapel as a mausoleum stands independently in an elevated position east of the castle.

The outbuildings are the administrator's house in front of the castle southwest, a wine cellar is placed in the hill southeast of the castle, and a gatekeeper house with an entrance gate from 1873 at the north end of the park.
