Thoiry Castle

The Castle of Thoiry is a 150 hectare castle complex with a zoo and botanical garden, located in the village of Thoiry in the Yvelines department in France , which has been open to the public since 1965. The complex is located about 48 kilometers west of Paris . In 1974 280,000 visitors were counted, since then the popularity has grown even further.

history

The castle was built between 1559 and 1580 according to plans by the architect Olivier Ymbert. The first owner was Raoul Moreau († 1583), who had become very wealthy as the treasurer of King Henry II .
