The Angerburg Castle (Polish: Zamek w Węgorzewie ) is the oldest building in the city of Angerburg (Polish: Węgorzewo) and was built in 1398. A previous wooden fortification was built in 1335 and destroyed by Lithuanians in 1368. In 1469 the castle went to Anselm and Hans von Tettau. From 1839 the unbuilt castle was used as a courthouse and prison.

In 1945 almost the entire interior was destroyed by the Red Army and fell victim to a fire. However, the walls survived the Second World War with almost no damage. The castle was rebuilt in the 1970s. There was now a library, the city administration and the registry office in the building. After the end of communism, the castle was sold into private hands. The castle is currently owned by private investors from Warsaw and is not open to visitors.
