Model of Zajezda Castle

Zajezda Castle is located in the village of Zajezda, which belongs to the Budinščina municipality in the Croatian Zagorje .

It was the ancestral castle of the Croatian noble family Patačić, who used it as a predicate ( Patachich de Zajezda ). The time of construction is not known, but it is mentioned in the famous book Status familiae Patachich from 1740. The castle's furnishings come from a later period and are attributed to the Styrian architect Johann Fuchs . Archbishop Adam Patačić was born here in 1717 .

The castle has three wings that enclose a closed inner courtyard, which is bordered on the fourth side by a wall with a portal. The wings of the inner courtyard are lined with arcades. Noteworthy are the central salon, the chapel and the staircase. Decorative stucco ceilings have been preserved in some places. The castle was destroyed by an earthquake in 1984, after which it was cleared and left to decay.

At the end of the 19th century there was a small park in front of the entrance to the castle, only a small part of which has survived. Zajezda never had a real park, but there was a large garden to the south of the castle and to the east of the garden and to the north there were agricultural buildings with a large inner courtyard.
