The Schlossbergseilbahn was a 259-meter-long aerial cableway, dismantled in December 2007, from the Freiburg city garden to the Dattler restaurant on the Schlossberg .

The railway with its three intermediate supports in steel lattice construction was built in 1968. The valley station of the cable car, designed as a gondola lift with eight two-seater cabins, was at a height of 276 meters above sea level, the mountain station at a height of 348 meters above sea level. The Schlossberg cable car was the only inner-city cable car in Germany. In 2001 a new drive and control were installed. The travel speed was 2.5 m / s and the travel time approx. 1.5 minutes.

In December 2006, operations had to be stopped after the operations manager had given notice. Since a general renovation would have been necessary after the operating permit had expired on December 31, 2008, continued operation was no longer economically viable in the opinion of the owner.

As a replacement for the Schlossberg cable car, a 239 meter long, fully automatic inclined elevator was built in 2008 , the Schlossbergbahn , which went into operation in July 2008.
