Schmeheim (noble family)

The Lords of Schmeheim were a noble family in the north of the Themar district in what is now southern Thuringia in the early High Middle Ages.

history

The Schmeheimers were wealthy in and around Schmeheim , but also in neighboring Marisfeld in the 13th and 14th centuries . Feudal lords were the Counts of Henneberg . In 1398 Barbara von Smeheim was an abbess in the Sonnefeld monastery .

The coat of arms of the noble family has been handed down as the local coat of arms of Schmeheim. It shows a red barbel above blue wavy bars on a silver background.
