Schmiedestrasse (Rostock)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The former Schmiedestraße in Rostock represents today's eastern section of the Lange Straße between Lagerstraße and the castle wall . It was part of the former Rostock Mittelstadt .

history

Schmiedestrasse, which should not be confused with Altschmiedestrasse in Rostock's historic old town , connected the historical Lange Strasse in the west with the alley near the Marienkirche , which is now also no longer available , and which was located north and east of the Marienkirche . The northern section of this street is also part of today's Long Street.

Schmiedestrasse, which was located northwest of the Marienkirche, was first mentioned in 1357 as platea fabrorum . It was quite rightly named, as the inhabitants of Schmiedestrasse have been handed down as metalworkers of every specialization.

The building on Schmiedestrasse consisted of half gabled houses and half of the stalls .

Schmiedestrasse was completely destroyed during the four-night bombardment of the British Air Force . In the course of the reconstruction of Langen Strasse as a socialist main thoroughfare, Schmiedestrasse and the alley at the Marienkirche were included in this complex.

Only the course of Schmiedstrasse, but not its buildings and its name, has been preserved.
