The Schnüriger are an old generation of free country people in the Steiner district of the Swiss state of Schwyz . First documented in the 12th century . Originally Schnüerliger, coming from the field name "Schnüerlen" (synonymous with small debris flow, debris flow, rüfe ) in the municipality of Sattel (Schwyz).

Over the centuries, important personalities in the political system and military service (Schwyzer Landvögte and Diet delegate in the old Confederation).

  • Werner Schnüriger († 1515 near Marignano )
  • Melchior (1778–1836), lieutenant colonel, officer in France and Naples, knight of St. Order of Ludwig , Swiss war commissioner, wrote "Ideas about the use of sniper rifles in standing armies" (1819)
  • Arnold (1824–1876), captain in Naples, including holder of the Gaëta campaign medal , married to a Princess Caracciolo from Naples.
