Hotkey

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Hotkeys are keys on a keyboard or other input devices for computers or devices that are assigned predefined, frequently used functions. The assignment is independent of running applications, so that e.g. B. when the word processor is open, the audio playback running in the background can be controlled.

Examples from the PC area are:

  • Media player : forward, backward, play / pause
  • Applications: call up file browser, web browser , e-mail
  • Web browser: page forward / back, reload

Similar functions also fulfill the function keys (the PC normally F1 to F12). However, these are individually assigned functions by the respective program.
