The chives island is an island in the Walensee . The island belongs to the municipality of Quarten in the canton of St. Gallen . It is the only Walensee island and the largest in the canton of St. Gallen. The island, 320 meters from the shore, is 80 meters long and 20 meters wide. It is flooded when the water is high.

Name variants

The chive island is also often called Swan Island , Bommerstein Island or " Inseli " by the locals . Inseli is the diminutive of Insel in Swiss German and is also used for other islands in Switzerland. It's called Swan Island because of the mute swans that populate the island.
