Schohaus

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Schohaus was the meeting house of the general guild master in Münster . Built in 1525, it was destroyed in air raids on Münster during World War II. It was at Alter Fischmarkt 27 near the Lambertikirche .

meaning

Two masters of the guilds met in the Schohaus, and in the basement there was a 165 m² hall for meetings. It was also a place of inspection (“show house”) for the goods of the master craftsmen in order to create and maintain high quality standards. Furthermore, the coats of arms of the individual guilds were kept there, which further increased the symbolic value of the Schohaus. Although it did not achieve the appearance of the representative Krameramthaus , it was of outstanding importance for the influence and the wide scope of the guilds.
