A screw shortener or screw holder is a tool that allows even the smallest screws to be tightened. With this holding device, screws can either be shortened or their threaded part can be machined.

description

A screw shortener consists of a handle with a threaded insert and a small cage with a "lantern" hole into which the screws can be inserted and tightened using the handle. The screw is now fixed and can be processed further. There are usually three to five lanterns with holes 0.4 to 1.5 mm in diameter for each booklet.

The screw shortener is still used today in watchmaking .
